Rodney “Big Rod” Allman writes as R.L. Allman and calls Belmont, North Carolina home.
From Headache Island to the Page
Big Rod played linebacker for the South Point Red Raiders in the fall of 1985, wearing number 52. He grew up in South New Hope, near Byrum’s Grill, and he went on to win world championships in powerlifting.
The Peaches McClain books grew out of the coaches, teachers and neighbors who shaped him in Belmont. Each book honors one of them, and the stories come from real events from his baseball coaching years and his childhood.
